Today I decided to tackle the Car-seat sleeping bag. So I got 8 pieces of paper and drew a half a bag the size I wanted for the car-seat and made the slit lines for it and created a pattern. Let me tell you its a easy project. However I did break a needle on my sewing machine in the process as sewing 4 pieces of fleece together at the end of the project was hard on the needle.

I have created a PDF pattern that can be printed out for you to tape together and use for free. This pattern is not for resale. however if you want you can donate.

I used Black Fleece and a Monster print fleece so it is a thick and warm for my son. It has slits sewn in for the 5 point harness to accommodate on the car seat. This will also work great for Strollers.

after sewing the two front pieces a black and a monster piece together i turned them right side out so it hid the seems. I did this with the back pieces also. I then sewed them together creating the sack part however I left the left side and inserted a zipper. The Zipper allows you to pull the baby out and buckle him or her up easily .

Now this pattern is currently free as its one of my first patterns I have made in PDF format for others to enjoy. I have a few more I am thinking of making but time will tell if i continue to do these patterns. For this pattern you will need both PDF Files and print and tape them together. I recommend cutting the paper pattern out after taping it together with paper scissors then pin it to your fabric and use your good fabric scissors. this way you do not dull your fabric scissors.

cozycarseat1

cozycarseat2

Even though I showed this to my son pediatrician and she had no objections too the use of this device while baby is strapped in his car seat or stroller “This is not intended for use in a motor vehicle. Use at your own risk. As with every thing there is a risk if not used properly. This is intended for personal use while walking a stroller or travel stroller car seat combo outside to keep baby warm. Again It is not intended for use while your child is strapped into a moving vehicle. I’m sure one could alter the pattern to not have slits and not have a back to it so there is no fabric in between the harness baby and car seat if you intend to use it while baby s in a car but that is your risk in using the pattern not mine. Always follow he instructions your car and car seat provide you with when strapping your child into a car seat and a car.

This pattern is intended for use in a stroller or car-seat that is strapped into a stroller and you are walking around town and is a use at your own risk.

A baby play mat for a lil boy of course who is waring puppy dog tails. I did a lil research online and came across a couple patterns for play mats for babies and came up with my own. This mat was made for under 15 bucks. let me tell you well worth the lil amount of time i spent making it as the store bought ones cost over 50 bux.

So how was it made well with fabric, foam insulation tubes, plastic clips and a sewing machine. first i made a pattern for the mat I drew a 90 degree angle and connected the lines with a quarter of a circle like cutting a pie in 4 pieces. I then added another arch above the quarter of the circle and I cut out four different quarters of a pie and the separated the second part the above circle.

I bought two foam insulation tubes at home depot in the plumbing department for 97 cents each. These are used for the arches. I used one long piece of fabric to cover them and added the ribbons in the seam for hanging toys. really quit simple to make.

I Also made the toys for it in which have crinkly paper in them or plastic so that they make noise when you squish them. I used the colors red black and white for most of the project as these are known colors to stimulate a babies brain. for the backing of the mat I used fleece as its a sturdy and soft fabric.

Here is a quick sketch up of he pattern i made for this play-mat.

Have fun making it and hope you babies have fun playing on it Mine is.

Last night I decided to try out my grandmothers old sewing machine that I am borrowing from my aunt. I bought some flannel fabric in three different designs on black and white swirls, another monkey and another green with different circles/dots in colors on it. Well I haven’t used the black and white yet, but i did use the green and the monkey. I made 4 burp rags one large and three small. I used a old rag I had from my first son as a pattern very simple to do. I will create a pattern that can be printed to use later.

So after cutting out the rags I started using the sewing machine this thing is ancient. after sewing two and half rags smoke started coming out the top. I thought I’d fried the thing. Nope it still works. Heh I was able to finish the last two. I am a very novice sewer when it come to a machine. I tend to break these things. Well looks like i survived and so did the machine this time!

there are two sides to each rag basically after cutting the two sides I put the faced the monkey and green fabric to each other and the white side was facing out and i sewed them together leaving a small hole to turn them right side out. I then sewed another time around the edge.then I was done.

Very simple and easy to make. I plan on making more once the other flannel fabric i order arrives. I will be doing skull tattoo fabric with black swirls and guitar rock n roll fabric with swirl. I may also try to make a swaddling blanket or two!

This is another one I recently made really easy total cost was under twenty bucks. Now I had been in search for this prop at a cheap price as I found them online for one hundred plus dollars a bed plus shipping. My thought was ya not gonna pay that I will figure it out and build one. Heck I built the most steady bunk bed for my son out of two by fours last year, and a built a fence for our back yard this one will be a cinch.

So off to search for a pattern to build the infant bed I went. Yay for Google search. as I found the perfect plans for building this prop at http://ana-white.com/2010/11/doll-farmhouse-bed

I didn’t even have too cut the wood. I had Home depot do all the cutting. Which is good considering I built this bed at eight in half month pregnant. total time about half a day to a day. As I had to wait for the wood glue and wood putty to dry before painting.

Please note if you do not have the time or energy to make these props and still want them you can custom order them through me just contact me and email me what you want!

Note: pictures to come later!

This is a very easy project takes less than five to ten mins to make. All you need to do is go to your local Joann Fabrics store and buy about two grape vine or willow branch wreath. I recommend looking for coupons in the weekly ads to save money on them.

You will need two sizes I believe I got the lager one about 24inches and a 12 inch one. I think it cost me about 15 bucks for bother the wreath. I also picked up some brown soft furry fabric from the remnants that cost me about two dollars and some twine.

When I got home I looked at the larger wreath and choose the side i wanted to be the top of the nest, then i flipped it over and used the twine to attach the Smaller wreath using the twine on the inside so it would not show on the outside in photos. Next you can add straw, feather, moss or whatever you heart desires that your birds nest be built of. Then you ad but do not attach the brown fabric to the center to make a soft comfortable place to place baby why photographing him/her.

Reason for not attaching the fabric you want to be able to remove it and wash it if baby has an accident.

Please note if you do not have the time or energy to make these props and still want them you can custom order them through me just contact me and email me what you want!

So I Have been looking for photography props online that would be good for infant photography. As I will soon have a new model in my home as my second son will son be born. I have began making photography props like crazy!

One of the props i came across online was the fringe blanket/hammock. I found that people sell them online for fifty plus dollars. Which would be fine if i had that kinda money laying around but being that I’m pregnant and am not able to shoot weddings right now means I need to save every penny for baby.

Being that I am a crafty person and have a kinda jack of all trades kinda mentality I just knew I could figure out how to make these blankets along with several other props. I will do a post on each prop I have made and am making.

Here’s a list of the prop that I have made so far that I will later be making DIY posts on:

Fringe blankets/hammock

knitted infant hats cocoons

birds nest

infant bed/doll bed

those are just a few to start with. So for the fringe blanket/hammock. I simply used a the kniffty knitter round red loom. Now when using the loom i did not keep going in circles like you would with a hat. I instead went around once then turned around and went the other way. I keep doing this until i had either a square for the blanket or a rectangle for the hammock.

once you have completed the blanket/hammock part you simply ad fringe to the edges. I cut several pieces of yarn about the total of an arms length and then used a needle and threaded them, tied them in half all the way around the blanket/hammock until i had the amount i wanted around the blanket. I also add ribbon for different textures of fringe. Total time was about 4 hours in between calls at my night/swing job i have.

Please note if you do not have the time or energy to make these props and still want them you can custom order them through me just contact me and email me what you want!

note: I will ad pictures later!
